Bohemian Rhapsody

It all started this morning while driving. The song came on as I was flipping through radio stations. I had to smile when I heard it was near the beginning, meaning that I would not miss my favorite part–Gaileo, figario…

Yes, I do, in fact, mean Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

A few things ran through my head as I drove, singing along, glancing back at my niece to see if she had any reaction to the fun parts of the song (she didn’t), and there are three reasons why this song is forever burned into my memory.

1. The Muppet version of it. Enough said. (If you haven’t seen this, watch. Now.)

2. The fact that I used to have a friend who, up until a few years ago, had never heard of it. Never heard of Queen, for that matter. But I can still remember the look on her face when I was singing along with Gaileo, figario… She thought I was nuts.

She later went and found a bunch of Queen songs for herself, but that’s not the point. The look was priceless. As was mentioning it to a certain other friend who is obsessed with 80’s music, and him correcting my statement about it being one of the most famous rock songs in history to one of the most famous rock opera songs in history.

3. The fact that when I met an online friend in person, this was the song we listened to repeatedly, all three of us singing along. It just proves that it crosses borders and generations. Not that I’m revealing ages or anything, I promise. 😉

What I found amusing was that while I went home thinking I’d put the song on a cd for later, I completely forgot. I needn’t have worried, though. My “random” on my computer’s music player has pulled the song up several times today. Twice in the last hour, even.

And then, as I was writing this, up popped Killer Queen.

Kabobbles Sing Along is just what I think when I hear songs. I sometimes see images when I hear lyrics, pictures or movies in my head. Sometimes I relate it to stories. My interpretation of the songs and lyrics are probably nothing like their original intent.
